SHOOT THE DUCK

We went to the roller skating rink tonight with Téa's school.  Apparently a very important event to attend, in her book.
It's not right by our house, or near a main road.  It takes some maneuvering and small roads to get there. Ben was driving, and just drove directly there.
Uh, can you drive directly to your local skating rink?  I wouldn't think so.  So, I make a comment about him secretly going skating on Saturday nights.  And he says, "I have 3 words for you Briar: Shoot The Duck."
I didn't get it.  Do You?????
If you do, then you need to tell me, because I swear to you that nobody knows what it is.
When I found out what it meant, I lost it.  I laughed so hard that Ben would know this.
I'm still not sure if I should be impressed or terrified that he would know some serious skating-lingo.

I was a pro at shooting the duck! I even won prizes. The "R" Skating rink-funny memories. I used to LOVE the snowball too!

You already know this, but I feel like I still need to support Ben and confirm that yes, I did know what "shoot the duck" meant. You have no idea how much I enjoy a good, random "do you know" phone call from you two!

i love how everyone that knows what shoot the duck is (with the exception of amy, who i assume is briar's sister b/c she is hot in the exact same way as bri) is from rexburg. and thank you kanani for saying snowball. i couldn't for the life of me get that name to come to my brain last night.

Amy - you really did break the vote. I was going to say it was just Idaho knowledge. But we now have a California vote. Where did that come from?
Of course I remember the skating rink, but I do not remember any duck shooting. I do remember Chief and wanting so badly to be able to do "crossies." where you cross your legs over and over as you make a big turn around the rink.

I also had NO IDEA what "shoot the duck" was, and I also hope that in the near future, you will have a post that features Ben and his roller skating prowess

Shoot the duck Briar, get down - real low down and kick that foot straight out and ride it. Ride it like you've never ridden it before.

And uh, did you roller skate in your prego condition?

I had to add my 2 cents given my presence amidst you gals during the shooting the duck era wearing my infamous plaid pleated skirt and knee highs. Briar, I'm with you - never heard of it - although I did recognize the move upon seeing a picture. In fact, as I mentioned on Amy's blog, I don't really remember roller skating with you guys. Now my vision of Ben is him skating a "slow skate" with some 12 year old girl to "Hopelessly Devoted to You" with the disco ball lights flashing around the arena. Oh and I just had a flashback - do you remember the couples who would do a double shoot the duck? Like they'd do it in opposition, holding hands. This was Ben.

i am feeling a little nervous about my confession...maybe I learned "shoot the duck" from my Ricks College days in Rexburg...maybe?!!!??? I really have no recollection of "when" I learned this term. I just assumed it was not when I was an adult! In full disclosure I had to add this. Maybe it IS an Idaho thing!

Amy...Since we were together pretty much all the time in our CA days, I'm pretty sure that if you would have known what shoot the duck was, I would have too. And i have no idea. It must have been from your days at Ricks. I miss you and I love your blog. --Jen Hribar
